Help: Editors

Policies

Editors can create new articles or modify existing articles in the main and people namespace. Before modifying an existing page, you should discuss the changes you want to make with others. Currently the best place to do this is at the #ezpedia IRC channel.

To edit pages in other namespaces than main and people, you will need the special priviliges of a wiki admin. You can request to become an admin or discuss what should be changed with the wiki admins and let them modify the page in your place.

Syntax

Linking to other pages

Internal links

When linking to another page on this wiki, you have to follow different methods according to the type of that page.

  • If the page is another wiki article, namespace, forum topic or reply, or a wiki user (for people familiar with the eZ publish basic concepts: any content object in the tree node structure) then use the ezobject:// protocol and browse for the page you want to link. Also add a related object for each link you add. This last step will be done automatically as soon as we've upgraded to eZ publish 3.9. Don't forget to remove related objects if you remove the link to it.
  • If the page is a special page (for people familiar with the eZ publish basic concepts: any page outside the tree node structure), for example the user registration form, then use relative links to the root of this wiki, which is http://pubsvn.ez.no/wiki. For the user registration form the link would be /user/register.

External links

Just use the absolute (fully qualified) URL, e.g. http://www.example.com/example.

If you link to one of the official eZ Publish technical manual or user manual pages at http://ez.no/doc then exchange the version number in the URL with "current". This ensures the link will always point to the page concerning the most recent version of eZ Publish. For example in http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/4_0/installation/normal_installation you need to replace 4_0 with current, so you get: http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/current/installation/normal_installation

URL redirection services

Please do not use services similar to TinyURL. There are several reasons for this:

  • By using this kind of URL redirection services you make links to the original eZpedia website including it's domain name and any subdirectory it is installed under. If we ever decide to move to another domain or to use another subdirectory (or no subdirectory at all) then we also have to change all redirecting links. Of course in such case we will make sure old URL's will redirect to the new URL, but there's a slight performance overhead in this solution.
  • Mirror sites should use local relative links, instead of links to the main eZpedia site. There are some exceptions to this rule, like the user account functions ( user/register, user/login, ...). For these exceptions use the absolute URL on the main eZpedia site.

Templates

The templates namespace contains reusable text messages. You can use the "Insert object" icon of the online editor to embed such a message.

One of the most commonly used templates is stub. Use this template in short articles in need of expansion.

Inserting a template into an article

  1. Edit a node
  2. Click 'Insert Object'
  3. Click 'Add existing'
  4. Click 'Templates'
  5. Check the item you wish to add
  6. Click 'Select'
  7. Click 'Ok'
  8. Complete your node content text edits
  9. Add a changelog text entry sumerizing the intent of your modifications
  10. Publish your modified node

Tracking changes
